We finally took one. We went to a place called Great Wolf Lodge here in Virginia. It has a full-sized indoor water park, an arcade, magical quests within the resort, a rock wall, a mini-golf course, and hula hoop dance parties, balloon bending, and a bedtime story in the lobby. Incredibly family friendly, quite expensive, but totally worth it. The kids had a majorly good time, and so did my husband and I. We got to go on water slides, got more exercise walking the hotel than we do even on a good day at home (doing the magical quests with the kids), and had a nice suite to go back to to collapse occasionally when we were worn out from having so much fun. We go on vacation once a year and go to visit my family once every couple of years. This place is going to be our go-to place to go on vacation for the foreseeable future. It was that much fun. We went for a 3-day weekend this time, next time we’ll go for longer if we can.
We came back home and collapsed on the couches for the rest of the day Monday. By Tuesday I was convinced I would be so sore that I wouldn’t be able to get up, but we were all pretty much OK. Surprising. Not counting the 6+ hours spent running around the water park, we logged an average of 12,000 steps a day while we were there. Lots of exercise, but very fun.
When I was growing up in California, my family and I would go to Disneyland every year. It was an 8 hour drive or so and we would stay for a 3-5 days and drive home. Great Wolf Lodge is an hour from our house, cheaper than going to Disney, and the kids had a great time. Sounds like a win to me!
Anyway… we are still climbing out from under the laundry, but we are recovered from our vacation and back into the swing of things. It was nice to get away though.
