Vacation

I passed my microbiology class. I kicked its butt actually. I knew this was going to be a difficult one after the first week so I decided that we’d take a mini-vacation once it was over. We have had a lovely time in Williamsburg, VA. Even though it’s not that far from home, we got a hotel room and did the tourist thing. We went to Busch Gardens,  the amusement park there, the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum of oddities (for the older son), and Colonial Williamsburg.  We managed to hit the perfect weekend. The city was having it’s holiday parade, the amusement park is in the middle of Christmastown, with 8 million Christmas lights and themed shows. I got to ride the scariest roller coaster I’ve ever been on and the kids got to ride several rides as well. Colonial williamsburg was having their Grand Illumination yesterday as well – fireworks and decorations and lights in all the windows, as well as corolers, and the regular tours. It was super fun and worth the splurge. We packed a week’s worth of entertainments into one weekend. This is the first family vacation we’ve ever been on that doesn’t include extended family somehow.

Micro marked the end of the first phase of school. Now we’re on to the actual nursing courses. Exciting!

We pretty much decided that we were going to have fun last weekend and not worry too much about the money until we got home and could assess. We can be skinny at home if we need to, but the weekend was all about fun. We didn’t go crazy, but we spent some. We decided that we weren’t going to worry too much about paying down bills quite as aggressively until January. We’ve still managed to pay them down during these past couple of months, but we’re not as aggressive as usual. The holidays are the time to unbend a little. We don’t do it that often these days,  so a splurge here and there in December is worth it. And mostly our splurges consist of things like going to see the lights at the botanical gardens for the holidays, this vacation was a once a year (if that) splurge.

It was great.
